Building a Community
The site of the project is the neighborhood I am currently living in. The buildings were developed around 2003, and used to the best neighborhood in the area. During the 18 years, Chengde went through dramatical changes, but the original constructions in the neighborhood stayed the same, which cannot satisfy the residences’ new needs. Therefore, the residences “designed” the space according to their different need in the 18 years, and transformed the whole neighborhood.

The designated functional areas that were built by the designer during early planning stage in this neighborhood were changed and erased by the residences as the city changed. The change in space occupation is the indicator of such phenomenon.
